About This Property

Alphonse Island Lodge is Blue Safari’s outer-island base on Alphonse Atoll, about 400 km southwest of Mahé — a one-hour charter, not a ferry hop. Go2Africa files it under Private Islands, Seychelles. The island sits with Bijoutier and St François in a marine wilderness Blue Safari puts at more than 13,800 acres.

Go2Africa’s expert count, which matches the official stay pages, is 22 Beach Bungalows, five Beach Villas (each with a private plunge pool) and two four-bedroom Beach Retreats on opposite sides of the island. Bungalows are 58 m², just metres from the beach, with a private deck and outdoor shower, for two adults and one child.

Villas are 126 m², two adults and two children, with direct beach access. Retreats are 600 m², four en-suite bedrooms, open-plan living and dining, a kitchen, outdoor showers and a private plunge pool, for eight adults and four children.

In-room kit on the official bungalow list includes air conditioning, ceiling fan, room safe, mini-bar, Nespresso, hairdryer, Africology products, Wi-Fi, sun loungers, private bicycles and laundry. Mason’s 2025 factsheet also lists a bath, outdoor shower, telephone, television and verandah.

The lodge has an infinity-style main pool and Le Lys Bar, Beach Bar and Barnacles Bar, Bijoutier Restaurant, Azure Spa, a fitness centre, tennis, a movie theatre, a PADI dive and fishing centre, and an Island Conservation Society research base.

The 2026 published stay is fully inclusive of meals, rod-and-reel loan, non-motorised activities, snorkelling kit, water, tea, coffee, activity soft drinks and Wi-Fi, from USD 1,490 per person sharing in a Beach Bungalow — the same headline as Go2Africa. Guided fishing, diving, spa treatments, the island flight and most alcoholic drinks sit outside that list.

Families are welcome; Alphonse Tribe is the children’s programme. Access is an IDC charter from Mahé’s domestic terminal; luggage is typically 15 kg plus a small carry-on. Inner-island Seychelles stays such as Le Duc de Praslin Hotel & Villas are a different product — Alphonse is an outer atoll.

Why We Love It

We love Alphonse because it is an atoll, not a beach strip off Victoria. An hour’s charter, 22 bungalows plus a handful of villas and two retreats, and a reef that Blue Safari treats as a marine safari — mantas, turtles, sailfish — is a different Seychelles to the inner-island hotels.

The 2026 rate is honest about what it covers: meals, bikes, kayaks, snorkel kit, tea and the rod loan. It does not pretend the bar is free. That matches the Go2Africa guest note on expensive drinks. We would rather pay for the reef and the fish than for a bottomless wine list.

We would fly Mahé the day before the IDC sector, keep bags to 15 kg, and give the stay a week so the Saturday (or Wednesday) timetable works. Families have a real answer in the four-bedroom retreats; couples can stay in a bungalow metres from the sand without a golf buggy.

Come for the outer islands and the house reef. Do not come expecting a ferry home or a town. Bijoutier and St François are the day boats; conservation is the other half of the product, with ICS on the island rather than a brochure footnote.

How to Get There

From Seychelles International Airport (SEZ), Mahé

Alphonse is about 400 km (250 miles) southwest of Mahé in the Outer Islands. Access is a private / IDC charter of about one hour from the domestic terminal (Blue Safari location page and access PDF). There is no ferry. Official: check in one hour before the scheduled Alphonse departure. Arrive on Mahé with no fewer than four hours between a long-haul landing and the island flight; overnight in Mahé if the connection is tight (official location page; the 2024 access PDF also cites a 90-minute minimum layover).

Flight days and luggage

Charters are not a daily scheduled airline. The 2024 Blue Safari access document lists Saturday (and selected Wednesday) Mahé–Alphonse sectors, with times that change — confirm the live timetable with reservations. Soft bags: 15 kg checked plus about 5 kg carry-on (access PDF / fishing pre-trip). Excess can often be stored in Mahé. The island airstrip is on Alphonse itself.

Nearby Attractions

Alphonse house reef and lagoon; Bijoutier Island (about 15–20 minutes by boat on the leisure sheet); St François Atoll (about 40–45 minutes); Island Conservation Society centre; tortoise sanctuary and tree nursery; The Farm / smoothie café; fly-fishing flats (catch-and-release)

Things to Do

At the property

Swim in the main pool, drink at Le Lys, the Beach Bar or Barnacles, and eat at Bijoutier or the beachfront pavilion. Azure Spa is extra. Tennis, volleyball, giant chess, a movie theatre with conservation talks, a fitness centre, The Farm and the tortoise sanctuary / tree nursery are on the official facilities list.

Bicycles are the way around the island. Alphonse Tribe occupies children. Wi-Fi is in the rooms.

In the area

The house reef is the immediate playground: snorkelling kit and non-motorised craft are in the 2026 rate. Go2Africa lists diving, dolphin cruises, surfing, yoga, picnics and island excursions. Blue Safari signature copy: snorkelling with sailfish, swimming with manta rays, blue safaris for dolphins, whales and turtles.

Catch-and-release flats fishing is world-class (Go2Africa expert: typically October–April); rod-and-reel loan is included, guided days are usually a package or extra. Sharks and rays are not targeted on the conservation-minded fishery described in 2025 review copy.

Day trips

Bijoutier Island about 15–20 minutes by boat; St François Atoll about 40–45 minutes (leisure factsheet). There is no village day-trip and no ferry to Mahé — you fly in and stay.

Conservation outings with the Island Conservation Society (turtle tagging appears in Go2Africa’s gallery) run from the research centre. This is not an inner-island hop to places such as Le Duc de Praslin; Alphonse is a one-hour charter from Mahé.

Good to Know

Children: Official occupancy: Beach Bungalow 2 adults + 1 child; Beach Villa 2 adults + 2 children (Mason factsheet also allows 3 adults on the one-bedroom villas); Beach Retreat 8 adults + 4 children. Alphonse Tribe programme for children of all ages. G2A: the island welcomes families.

Meal plan: 2026 fully inclusive of meals, water, tea, coffee and soft drinks during activities — not a blank-cheque bar. Breakfast 06:00–10:00, lunch 12:30–14:30, dinner 19:30–21:00 on the 2020 leisure sheet (earlier on request); picnic lunches and complimentary room service on request on that sheet.

Alcohol: bars (Le Lys, Beach Bar, Barnacles) are on site; drinks beyond the inclusion list are extra (Go2Africa guest review: expensive beverages).

Conservation: Island Conservation Society research centre; turtle-friendly lighting and catch-and-release flats fishing with GPS-monitored pressure described in independent 2025 review copy; official marine wilderness about 13,800 acres across the Alphonse Group.

Power: leisure sheet: off-grid, solar, 220 V 50 Hz, British square-pin plugs. ATTA Zero Waste Trailblazer Award 2025 on the official home page.

Wi-Fi: in-room and throughout (official / G2A); fishing pre-trip: code for two to four devices.

Laundry: listed on official bungalow amenities; Mason factsheet still says laundry at cost — confirm.

What3Words / check-in times: no operator times found; third-party 14:00/12:00 and 14:00/10:00 disagreed, so both fields are blank.

Who It's For

Couples and honeymooners in a bungalow or villa; multi-generational families in a Beach Retreat (eight adults and four children); fly-fishers and divers who will take the Saturday (or selected Wednesday) charter and stay put. Not for anyone who needs a daily ferry, a last-minute Mahé connection under four hours, or a resort with a big town attached. Alcohol is not an open bar on the 2026 fully inclusive card.

Best Time to Visit

Open year-round (official / leisure factsheet). About 7° south of the equator, outside the cyclone belt; temperatures seldom below 22°C on the 2020 leisure sheet. Northwest trades roughly late September–early May (hotter, more humid, short rain). Southeast trades May–September (slightly cooler, less humid). Go2Africa expert: prime flats fly-fishing typically October–April. Yellow Dog-style fishing weeks are commonly Saturday-to-Saturday on the IDC charter. Humpbacks and other blue-safari sightings are seasonal — confirm with reservations.
