About This Property
Eka Hotel is a contemporary 4-star on Mombasa Road, at the Southern Bypass interchange, built for the night either side of a flight. The official site puts JKIA five minutes away via the Expressway; Wilson Airport — the safari field — is about 5 km. Nairobi National Park sits next door. It is a clean-lined garden hotel rather than a CBD tower.
The official rooms page lists 163 air-conditioned rooms: 154 Superior (20 m², king or twin), two accessible rooms, three triples, one Junior Suite (23 m²) and three Executive Suites (50 m²). The homepage also prints 167 rooms. Open-plan en-suite bathrooms have toilets and rain showers in frosted-glass cubicles, with flat-screen satellite TV, complimentary high-speed internet, minibar, tea-and-coffee station, electronic safe and air conditioning.
Shared spaces include Galaxy Restaurant (buffet breakfast, all-day à la carte, live show kitchen, terrace over the pool, 150 covers, 24-hour room service), Spur Restaurant (11:00–23:00), a 24-hour coffee shop, Galaxy Bar and bar deck, a gym, an outdoor pool, a wellness centre, a gift shop and five meeting rooms. Hotel guests have exclusive use of Eka Gardens — lawns, a jogging track and seating.
This is a transit hotel with restaurants that keep late hours, not a game lodge. Use it for a shower and a buffet breakfast between JKIA and Wilson, or as a night before Nairobi National Park. Flying safaris from Wilson typically continue to the Masai Mara — Angama Mara or Mahali Mzuri — or to Amboseli at Angama Amboseli.
Why We Love It
We like Eka because it sits where Nairobi’s two airports and the national park actually are — Mombasa Road at the Southern Bypass, five minutes from JKIA on the Expressway, a short hop from Wilson. That geography matters more than a CBD postcode when you land at midnight or leave at dawn.
The rooms are straightforward: air conditioning, rain showers, DSTV, a kettle. Superior rooms do the stopover; the Junior and Executive suites add sitting space if you have a longer transit. The pool and Eka Gardens give you somewhere to stand down after a safari, which is the whole point of a last night.
We also like that breakfast is a buffet at Galaxy and that the coffee shop runs 24 hours. It is used as a day room after the bush and before a long-haul — a shower, a meal, then the airport. It is not Karen, and it is not the Mara. It is a well-run 4-star for the nights either side of both.
