About This Property
Out of Africa Legend sits in the Seronera area of the central Serengeti, the part of the park where resident game concentrates all year rather than moving through on migration. The camp is built around a single idea: that a safari should feel the way it did a century ago, before the tarmac and the transfer buses.
There are 14 tented suites in all, 12 standard and two family units, spaced generously apart so that neighbours are neither seen nor heard. Canvas walls, organic cotton bedding, twin bathrooms and a small copper tub give each tent a texture that modern lodges tend to sand away. Hot water arrives on request, and the open-air shower is exactly that.
Game drives run in restored Land Rovers with Maasai rangers alongside the guiding team, and the camp keeps its fences at ground level so that the plains read as one continuous landscape. Rates are quoted as a game package, so confirm the exact inclusions when you enquire.
Why We Love It
The vintage framing could easily be a gimmick, but here it holds up because the substance behind it is real: restored vehicles rather than props, Maasai rangers who are genuinely part of the operation, and a Seronera position that delivers big cats without a two-hour drive to reach them.
We also rate the tent spacing. Fourteen units is a modest camp by Serengeti standards, and the layout is built for privacy rather than density, which is what makes the fireside evenings work.
Rooms & Details
Luxury Tented Suites

Twelve standard tented suites make up the bulk of the camp, each finished in canvas and handcrafted detail with organic cotton bedding. Two bathrooms per tent is an unusual touch at this size of camp, and useful if you are sharing.
Family Tents

Two family units pair a parents' room with a separate children's room, so families travelling together get proximity without sharing one space. Children under 12 are welcome at the camp.
Bathrooms and Copper Tubs

Each tent has a miniature copper bathtub and an open-air shower, with hot water brought on request rather than plumbed on demand. Bathroom amenities are by Organic Healing EARTH.
Bar, Lounge and Dining

Communal areas are open-sided and deliberately unfussy: timber fires, a canvas dining room and lounge seating that faces out over the plains. Dinner is served by lantern or firelight.
Vintage Land Rovers

Game drives run in fully restored classic Land Rovers, which rest between safaris in full view of the camp. Maasai rangers accompany the guiding team on drives and around the grounds.

Location
How to Get There
Almost everyone arrives by light aircraft. Fly into Kilimanjaro International (JRO) or connect via Arusha, then take a scheduled hop to one of the Seronera airstrips, from where the camp arranges the road transfer.
Seronera is well served by the domestic circuit, so the camp combines easily with the Ngorongoro Crater, the northern Serengeti or a Zanzibar beach stay at the end of the trip.
Nearby Attractions
The wider central Serengeti plains, the Seronera River valley for big cats, and the Ngorongoro Crater within reach as a combination. The northern Serengeti and Zanzibar both pair well on a longer trip.
Things to Do
Game drives are the core of a stay here, run in restored Land Rovers across classic savannah with strong chances of the Big Five, black rhino included. Rhino tracking is offered in collaboration with park rangers.
Guided walking safaris give a slower read of the same landscape, and hot-air balloon flights over the Serengeti can be arranged at additional cost. Bird watching, bush picnics and sundowners fill the gaps between drives.
Good to Know
Rates are quoted as a game package rather than a room-only rate, so confirm exactly which activities, park fees and drinks are covered before you book.
Children under 12 are welcome and two family tents are available. Hot water is supplied on request rather than continuously, which is normal for a camp of this style. The Serengeti is a malaria area, so take the usual precautions and speak to your doctor before travelling.
Who It's For
Travellers who want the romance of a classic safari camp without giving up comfort, plus families who need two connected tents rather than one shared space.
Best Time to Visit
Seronera holds game all year. June to October is the driest and easiest for viewing; the green months from November to May bring newborn game and better birding. General guidance, confirm for your dates.
