About This Property
Wolwedans Dunes Lodge is set within the NamibRand Nature Reserve — the largest private nature reserve in Southern Africa at 215,000 hectares. The lodge sits on a wooden platform elevated above the desert floor, with panoramic views across rust-red dunes, golden grasslands, and the distant Nubib Mountains.
Nine stilted chalets and one honeymoon suite are connected by wooden walkways, each with canvas walls that can be folded back to reveal the desert in every direction. The interiors are elegant and simple — bleached wood, white linens, and natural tones that complement rather than compete with the landscape.
NamibRand is one of Africa's few Gold-tier IDA International Dark Sky Reserves, making it one of the best stargazing destinations on Earth. The silence is absolute — this is a place where you can hear the wind moving across the dunes from kilometres away.
Why We Love It
Wolwedans captures the essence of the Namib in a way few places can. The elevated platform design means you're sleeping in the landscape rather than on it — fold back your canvas walls and the desert stretches to every horizon. The stargazing is otherworldly, and the sunrise over the dunes is a daily masterpiece.
