About This Property
Musesenji River Camp is a new Ker and Downey Zambia property on an elevated peninsula where the Zambezi and Musesenji rivers meet, in the far eastern reaches of Lower Zambezi National Park. It is the most downriver camp in the park, which makes it the most remote. The camp opens on 1 April 2027.
The plan is for a handful of riverfront tents taking a maximum of 14 guests. Luxury Safari Tents will have private decks with plunge pools over the Zambezi, indoor and outdoor showers and full air conditioning, with a Family Luxury Tent adding separate bedrooms around a shared living area.
The build is designed around a light footprint: entirely solar-powered, no permanent concrete footings, and its own water filtration. Rates are fully inclusive of all meals and selected beverages, with park fees and levies charged separately.
Why We Love It
Position is everything in the Lower Zambezi, and this one is unusually good. Sitting at a river confluence means water frontage on two sides and game funnelling past camp rather than needing to be found.
Being the furthest camp east in the park is the other draw. It buys genuine solitude in a park that is otherwise getting busier, and Ker and Downey’s own aircraft makes pairing it with King Lewanika in Liuwa Plain straightforward.

Luxury Safari Tents (from April 2027)

Family Luxury Tent

Main Tent, Lounge and Library

Riverside Decks and Plunge Pools

Rates from USD 1,300 per person per night sharing in the 2027 shoulder season (1 April to 30 June and 1 to 30 November), rising to USD 1,895 in high season (1 July to 31 October). Park fees and conservation and community levies of USD 100 per person per night are additional. Prices checked August 2026 and subject to change and availability.

Fully inclusive rates cover accommodation, all meals, selected beverages and scheduled safari activities. Park fees and conservation and community levies of USD 100 per person per night are charged separately. Private activities, specialist guiding, international and light-aircraft flights, premium imported drinks, gratuities and travel insurance are excluded.
Location
How to Get There
Access is by air. Fly into Lusaka (LUN) and connect on a light aircraft to Kulefu Airstrip, which sits just minutes west of the camp. Ker and Downey operate their own plane on the circuit.
That aircraft also links the camp to King Lewanika Lodge in Liuwa Plain, and the Lower Zambezi combines conventionally with South Luangwa and Victoria Falls on a longer Zambian trip.
Nearby Attractions
The wider Lower Zambezi National Park and the Zambezi escarpment, with Mana Pools on the Zimbabwean bank opposite. South Luangwa, Liuwa Plain and Victoria Falls all combine on a longer Zambian trip.
Things to Do
The Lower Zambezi is one of the few parks where boat, vehicle and foot all work well, and the camp is set up for all three. Game drives, guided walking safaris and boat cruises each read the same landscape differently.
Birding is a strong draw with more than 430 species recorded in the park, and leopard and wild dog are among the headline sightings. Bush dining and time on the private decks fill the rest.
Good to Know
The camp is not yet open. It is a new build scheduled to open on 1 April 2027, and all current imagery is CGI renders rather than photographs of the finished camp. Everything described here reflects the published plans.

The Lower Zambezi is a malaria area, so take the usual precautions and speak to your doctor before travelling.

Best Time to Visit
July to October is the peak dry season, when game concentrates on the river and the viewing is at its strongest. April to June and November are shoulder months, greener and quieter. General guidance, confirm for your dates.
