About This Property
Kitirua Plains Lodge is an A&K Sanctuary property on a 128-acre private concession adjoining Amboseli National Park, in the Kitirua Conservancy on the Kenya–Tanzania border. Luxury Frontiers designed it with Maasai principles in mind: curved walls, soil-coloured plaster quarried on site, and an infinity pool set into an existing wetland rather than beside it. Go2Africa puts it on the edge of the park, with Kilimanjaro in the distance and a seasonally inundated floodplain — flamingos when the water is up — in front of the suites.
There are 13 suites: 11 one-bedroom (116 m²) and two two-bedroom (242 m²). A&K: each one-bedroom has indoor and outdoor showers, a freestanding bath and a shaded veranda; the two-bedroom units share a lounge. Wetu: king or twin, air-conditioning, overhead fan, mosquito net, minibar, tea and coffee, Type G / USB / USB-C. Go2Africa: king beds, floor-to-ceiling windows, bath in front of the view. Maximum 26 guests. Unfenced; solar with generator backup.
The Explorer’s Lounge, an open-fronted bar and dining room, a Healing Earth spa (Enkai Earth Blessing and Maasai Red Earth Ritual are the named signatures), an open-air yoga deck, a gym and the wetland pool make up the shared camp. Game Package stays include twice-daily drives, a community visit, laundry and airstrip transfers. Night drives, walks, ballooning and helicopters are offered; ballooning is extra on Go2Africa, and several operator cards also charge for night drives — confirm what is in your rate.
This is a new lodge (first guests June 2026), not a tented camp. You come for Kilimanjaro from the bed, fewer vehicles than inside the park, and Amboseli’s elephants. Park and conservancy fees sit on top of the Game Package unless a flying package says otherwise.
Why We Love It
We like Kitirua because it sits where Amboseli actually happens — a 128-acre private concession on the park boundary, with Kilimanjaro in the glass and a floodplain in front of the suites. Go2Africa’s own copy is the flamingos, the elephants and the mountain. A&K’s is fewer vehicles than inside the park, and night drives and walks that a national-park lodge cannot sell.
Thirteen suites is the right scale: 11 rooms at 116 m² with a bath looking at the view, plus two 242 m² two-bedroom units. The pool is in the wetland, not a hole in a lawn. Healing Earth is a real spa menu (Enkai Earth Blessing, rungu stick and all), not a tent with a massage table. That is the A&K press, not a review of a stay we invented.
We would book the Game Package so drinks, laundry and the airstrip run are in, and we would confirm park fees, night drives and the child vehicle rule in writing. The Go2Africa glance starts at USD 1,050; A&K’s own from-price is USD 840. Either way it is a new lodge (June 2026). Come for the mountain and the elephants, not for a long TripAdvisor thread — there isn’t one yet.
Rooms & Details

Beds convert king or twin. Air-conditioning, overhead fan, mosquito net, minibar, tea and coffee, hairdryer, bidet, and Type G plugs plus USB and USB-C. A chaise sits on the verandah. Triples are subject to availability.
Two-Bedroom Suite

Two two-bedroom suites, each 242 m², sleep four. Two en-suite bedrooms share a lounge, with covered outdoor dining on some layouts.
Each bedroom can take adults or children. Family rooms sit on the Game Package; a private vehicle is required if children aged six or under join the drives. Another Amboseli stay on this site is Angama Amboseli.
Explorer’s Lounge

The Explorer’s Lounge is the indoor gathering room. An open-fronted bar and dining room face the floodplain, with a wine cellar for private dining and a weekly boma braai.
Kenya itineraries from Amboseli often continue to the Mara — see Angama Mara and Mahali Mzuri.
Dining

Meals are served in the open-fronted dining room looking over the wetland. A weekly boma braai and wine-cellar private dining are on the programme.
Bar

The open-fronted bar looks over the floodplain. Flamingos use the water in season; elephants and big cats are sought on morning and evening drives from the 128-acre concession.

How to Get There
By air from Nairobi
Fly from Wilson Airport to Amboseli Airstrip. Wetu / African Spice: about a 30-minute flight, then about a 40-minute road transfer to the lodge. Ongeri puts the Wilson hop at about 45 minutes. Return airstrip transfers are included on the Game Package (Go2Africa; A&K press). Light-aircraft luggage is typically 20 kg per person in a soft bag (Wetu). Flights run in daylight only.
By road from Nairobi
African Spice: about 240 km / about four hours via the Emali–Loitokitok tarmac road. The lodge sits on a private concession adjoining the park, on the Kenya–Tanzania border. Self-drive is not the usual arrival — most guests fly.
From other safari circuits
Ongeri: about 55 minutes by air from Ukunda (Diani); under two hours from the Masai Mara depending on routing. Check-out by 10:00 is the time given on Porini and African Spice cards. No published check-in hour found on Go2Africa, A&K or Wetu snippets — confirm when you book.

Bird the floodplain when it holds water (flamingos on Go2Africa’s highlight list).
In the area
Twice-daily game drives in Amboseli and the conservancy for elephants (including descendants of Echo), lion, leopard, cheetah, buffalo, giraffe and more than 400 bird species. A Maasai community visit is on the Game Package. Guided walks and night drives are offered because this is a private concession — several operator cards charge extra for the night drive; confirm. Leica binoculars are issued for the stay on the A&K press note.

Who It's For
Couples, honeymooners and families who want Amboseli with Kilimanjaro from a 116 m² suite, and a private concession for walks and (when included) night drives, rather than a large park lodge. Photographers after elephants against the mountain. The two two-bedroom suites suit families; children 15 and under share with an adult; a private vehicle is required for under-7s on several cards. Not a classic canvas camp — Luxury Frontiers’ curved masonry is the point. Unfenced; solar; 26 guests at most.
Best Time to Visit
Open year-round (Wetu). Go2Africa Game Package widgets run 1 June 2026–2 January 2028. Dry months June–October and January–February are the usual clear Kilimanjaro and concentrated game-viewing window (Beyond Kenya; Ongeri). Green season (November–May, and Go2Africa’s 1 November–20 December shoulder) brings birding and flamingos on the seasonally inundated floodplain. First guests June 2026 (A&K press; Ongeri).
