Overview
Agulhas National Park protects the southern tip of Africa at Cape Agulhas in the Western Cape, about three hours from Cape Town. A cairn marks the official point where the Indian and Atlantic oceans meet.
The park is made up of coastal fynbos, limestone hills, wetlands and a rugged coastline with many shipwrecks. It’s part of the Cape Floral Region, with many plants found nowhere else.
Visitors come for the southern tip, the Cape Agulhas lighthouse, coastal walks, birding and quiet stays in the park’s rest camp at Rietfontein.
Wildlife & Biodiversity
Plants
Fynbos and limestone plants are the park’s main attraction, with many rare and endemic species.
Animals and birds
Bontebok, grysbok and small antelope live in the park. African black oystercatchers nest on the coast, and the wetlands attract many waterbirds.
