About This Property

Bayete Guest Lodge is a family-run, 30-room garden lodge at Stand 584 Manyika Road, in the residential area of Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. It is the flagship of The Bayete Collection, owned by Mike and Alex Johnson. A teardrop swimming pool sits at the centre of the grounds, with the dining boma and bar around it. The Tavern is the published communal gathering spot.

This is a town lodge, not a game camp. You sleep in a tropical garden and book the Falls, the river and the adrenaline desk from reception. Official: 7–10 minutes’ drive to Victoria Falls National Park; within 3 km of town. Go2Africa’s copy about Hwange walking safaris is a day-trip sell, not the site — the lodge is in Victoria Falls.

Rooms split into Classic and Executive: doubles, twins, triples, a honeymoon suite (open-plan Victorian bath against a railway sleeper) and a family cottage that sleeps five in two bedrooms with a shared bathroom. All listed rooms have air-conditioning, mosquito nets, tea and coffee and universal plugs. There are no fridges or televisions in the rooms; a TV sits in the bar.

The published rate is bed and breakfast — a Full English in the dining boma. Lunch and dinner are home-cooked from a seasonal menu, on request, and should be pre-ordered. Go2Africa’s from-price is USD 131 per person sharing.

Fibre-optic Wi-Fi is free throughout. The Collection holds a Green Tourism bronze award.

Children of all ages are accepted on the official page. Wetu’s Fast Facts set a minimum child age of 3. Check-in is 14:00–17:00, check-out 10:00. Open year-round.

Why We Love It

We like Bayete because it is still a garden lodge on Manyika Road, not a Falls-view hotel tower. Thirty rooms around a teardrop pool, a dining boma for breakfast, and Mike and Alex Johnson’s Collection running the desk — that is the published picture, and it is enough.

The Falls are 7–10 minutes away. You walk or take a taxi. The activity office books the helicopter, the gorge and the sunset cruise so you do not have to hire a car. Go2Africa’s USD 131 bed-and-breakfast from-price is the honest number: lunch and dinner are extra and pre-ordered, which we prefer to a padded half-board we did not eat.

We would take an Executive or the honeymoon suite if we wanted a Victorian bath, and the family cottage if we were five and did not mind a shared bathroom. We would not come here expecting Hwange on the lawn — that is a day trip Go2Africa sells, not the site.

Things to Do

At the property

Swim in the teardrop pool. Eat the included Full English in the dining boma; pre-order lunch or dinner from the seasonal menu. Sit in The Tavern / bar (the only television on the property). Free fibre-optic Wi-Fi.

The on-site desk books Falls and river activities. Go2Africa also lists archery — confirm on site. There is no spa and we have not confirmed the gym Go2Africa lists.

In the area

Victoria Falls is a 7–10 minute drive (official Collection FAQ); a walk is possible. Town is within 3 km. The desk books Tour of the Falls, sunset cruises, helicopter flights (Flight of Angels), sightseeing, game-viewing and adrenaline activities — all extra, most with their own transfers. Zambezi National Park sits on the river above the Falls for game viewing closer to town.

Day trips

Go2Africa highlights wildlife in Hwange National Park as a day outing from this lodge, not as on-site game viewing. Livingstone (Zambia) and Kasane (Botswana) transfers are on request. A car is not required.

Chobe National Park is the usual Botswana add-on from Kasane.

Children: Official: all ages; family cottage, triples and inter-leading executive rooms. Wetu minimum child age 3. visitvictoriafalls.net: under 3 free sharing; 12 and under 50% of adult rate. Babysitting 24 hours’ notice; two camp cots.

Wetu embed copy still saying 25 rooms / 55 guests is stale on the room count.

Some classic rooms have bathtubs — ask. Family cottage bathroom is shared between the two bedrooms.

Green: Official: Green Tourism bronze award.

Who It's For

Couples, families (cottage, triples and inter-leading executive rooms) and independent travellers who want a garden lodge in Victoria Falls town, not a park camp. The honeymoon suite is the published romantic room. Not a safari lodge: game viewing is booked out. Not for guests who need in-room TVs or fridges. Children: official all ages; Wetu minimum 3.

Best Time to Visit

Open year-round. Victoria Falls is at its strongest flow roughly February–May; September–December the gorge is clearer as spray drops (GIA destination note). The lodge is a town-garden stay, not a seasonal safari camp. Malaria precautions: official FAQ says Victoria Falls is not considered a very high-risk malarial area, but guests should still take medical advice.
