About This Property
Etendeka Mountain Camp lies in the foothills of the Grootberg massif in northern Damaraland, among flat-topped mountains, boulders and ancient lava flows. It runs on a 400 km² concession shared with the Omatendeka and Anabeb conservancies, so the local communities benefit directly.
Days are spent walking with expert guides, looking for elephant shrews and black mongoose, or driving to find black rhino, desert-adapted elephant, Hartmann’s mountain zebra, oryx and cheetah. Birders hunt for the rare long-billed lark.
At night, a telescope comes out for Saturn’s rings in some of the darkest skies anywhere.
Why We Love It
We love its honesty. Etendeka is for travellers happy to step out of their comfort zone and experience the wilderness authentically, with bucket showers and banquet-style meals by the fire.
The guiding on foot is exceptional.
