About This Property
Camp Okavango is a classic Okavango Delta water camp, set on Nxaragha Island in the heart of the permanent Delta — a region of crystal-clear channels, papyrus-lined lagoons, and palm-fringed islands that remains flooded year-round. Accessible only by light aircraft, this is about as remote as safari gets.
The camp features twelve raised East African-style safari tents, each with hardwood floors, en-suite bathroom, and a private deck overlooking the Delta's waterways. The main lodge area includes a plunge pool, lounge, and dining area — all built on elevated wooden platforms among the trees.
As a water-based camp, activities focus on mokoro (traditional dugout canoe) excursions, motorboat safaris, and guided island walks. The birding is extraordinary — over 400 species have been recorded in the Delta — and the aquatic wildlife includes hippos, crocodiles, and the elusive sitatunga antelope.
Why We Love It
Camp Okavango delivers the quintessential Delta experience: gliding silently through papyrus channels in a mokoro while a fish eagle calls overhead. The permanent water setting means activities are water-focused year-round — there's no waiting for seasonal floods. The remoteness adds a genuine sense of adventure that few lodges can match.
