About This Property
andBeyond Tengile River Lodge is a contemporary, nine-suite lodge in a quieter part of the Sabi Sand Game Reserve, the 65,000-hectare private reserve next to Kruger National Park. It sits in riverine forest along the Sand River, and every part of the lodge has a river view.
The suites are air-conditioned and set out along the bank. Each has a private deck with its own pool, outdoor seating and dining, a built-in bar, and a lounge where you can eat in if you’d rather not join the group.
The design is understated and local: furniture by South African designers, stones from the old Selati railway set into the concrete floors, and sand used to camouflage the rooftops. There’s also a spa, a gym and a lap pool, and rates are fully inclusive.
Why We Love It
We love how calm Tengile feels. With nine suites in a less-visited corner of the Sabi Sand, game drives rarely feel crowded, and the area’s reputation for leopard is well earned.
The suites are the other draw: your own pool on a deck over the Sand River is hard to leave, and sundowners at a scenic lookout on the afternoon drive round off the day.
