About This Property
Skukuza Safari Lodge sits inside Skukuza Rest Camp, the administrative heart of Kruger National Park, about 12 km from Paul Kruger Gate. Operated by aha Hotels and Lodges in partnership with SANParks, it is the closest thing Kruger has to a full-service hotel — and for travellers who want park access without either rest-camp self-catering or private-reserve rates, it fills a gap nothing else does.
There are 128 rooms in total: 91 standard rooms, 11 family suites made from 22 interleading rooms, eight suites and seven accessible units. Each is en-suite and air-conditioned with a safe, a bar fridge and a private outdoor patio.
The lodge has a swimming pool, gym, restaurant serving à la carte and buffet, a spa with indoor and outdoor treatment rooms, and a conference centre. Because it is inside Skukuza, the camp’s shop, fuel station and bank are a short walk away, and the Skukuza Golf Course is adjacent.
Why We Love It
Skukuza Safari Lodge solves the classic Kruger dilemma: how to stay inside the park without sacrificing comfort. The rooms are genuinely good, the restaurant is solid, and the location — right on the Sabie River in central Kruger — is hard to beat. For self-drive safari enthusiasts, this is the ideal base camp.

Things to Do
Guided morning, afternoon and night game drives and guided bush walks, all booked through the camp. Self-drive from Skukuza is outstanding: the H4-1 along the Sabie River to Lower Sabie is consistently rated one of the best game-drive roads in the park. There is also a nine-hole golf course adjacent to the camp, a spa, and a gym.
Good to Know
Malaria area — take precautions. SANParks conservation fees are charged per person per day and are not included in the room rate. Gate and camp curfew times are strictly enforced, so plan drives around sunset. Rates typically include breakfast only; lunch, dinner and game drives are extra. The Skukuza Golf Course is unfenced and wildlife moves through it.
Who It's For
Self-drive safari enthusiasts, families, budget-conscious travellers wanting park accommodation, and first-time Kruger visitors.
Best Time to Visit
May to September for dry season. Year-round for self-drive safari.
