Shiduli Safari Lodge sits in the 9,000-hectare Karongwe Private Game Reserve, beneath the Drakensberg escarpment in the Kruger lowveld. Thatched suites are spread through mature indigenous gardens and linked by winding pathways, which gives the lodge a green, settled feel rather than an open-bush one.
The suites are large and residential in character, with air conditioning, tea and coffee facilities, filtered water, digital safes, mosquito nets and en-suite bathrooms. Interleading options make it straightforward for families to be next door to each other. The Royal Suite adds an outdoor shower and a private plunge pool.

Why We Love It
This is one of the more affordable ways into a Big Five reserve with genuine family infrastructure behind it. The children’s programme is real rather than a colouring book at reception, and the separate kids’ pool matters more than it sounds on a hot afternoon.
The gardens are the other thing. Birdlife moves through them all day, so younger travellers get something to look at between drives instead of waiting for the next one.

Thatched and set among the gardens, the Luxury Suites are large and comfortably residential. Air conditioning, tea and coffee facilities, filtered water, a digital safe and mosquito nets come as standard.
Interleading Family Suites
Interleading configurations put parents and children in adjoining suites with their own bathrooms. Each suite has a private patio facing into the gardens.
Royal Suite
The Royal Suite adds an outdoor shower and a private plunge pool overlooking the bush, with more indoor living space than the standard suites. It is the honeymoon and special-occasion option.
Pools and Gardens
There is an adults' pool and a separate children's pool, both set in indigenous gardens that hold birdlife throughout the day. Shaded lounges and walkways link the whole property.
Boma, Spa and Kids Club
Dinners move to the traditional boma when the weather allows, with Pan-African cooking and a fire at the centre. A spa, children's club and babysitting service are all on site.

How to Get There
Fly into Hoedspruit Eastgate (HDS) on a domestic connection from Johannesburg or Cape Town, then transfer by road to Karongwe, or self-drive from Johannesburg via the N1 and Tzaneen. The lodge has a heli-pad and secure parking for self-drivers.
Karongwe combines readily with the Panorama Route, Blyde River Canyon and the Kruger National Park itself.
Nearby Attractions
The Panorama Route, Blyde River Canyon and Bourke's Luck Potholes inland, with the Kruger National Park and the Greater Kruger private reserves to the east.
Things to Do
Guided game drives run morning and afternoon across the reserve, with night drives, guided walks and photographic safaris available. Helicopter flights can be arranged.
Beyond the drives there are cooking lessons, cultural visits, conservation projects and a dedicated children’s activity programme, plus a spa for the hours in between.
