About This Property
Leshiba Wilderness occupies 2,500 hectares high in the Soutpansberg Mountains of northern Limpopo, inside the UNESCO Vhembe Biosphere Reserve. This is mountain country rather than lowveld bush: gorges, rock pools, cliffs and long views, with a biodiversity record that runs to more than 250 bird species and a number of rare plants.
Accommodation is deliberately varied. The Marula standard double and twin rooms are the simple option, the Mwedzi luxury suites sit high on the mountainside with private plunge pools and outdoor showers, and Luvhondo Rondavel and Hamasha Bush Camp are remote self-catering units built around communal living space and outdoor fires.
Venda culture runs through the reserve, in the architecture of the units, the artwork and the guided visits to ancient San rock art. Stays can be fully catered or self-catered depending on which unit you book.
Why We Love It
This is not a Big Five substitute and it does not pretend to be. What it offers instead is walking country: marked trails through gorges and rock pools, rock art you reach on foot, and giraffe, zebra and wildebeest on the drives.
The cultural side is the real differentiator. Venda architecture, resident artwork and arranged visits with local artists give this a sense of place that most Limpopo reserves do not attempt.

Marula Standard Double and Twin Rooms
The simplest option on the reserve, well positioned for the main facilities and the trailheads. Double and twin configurations suit couples, friends and small groups on a tighter budget.
Mwedzi Luxury Suites
Set high on the mountainside with long views across the valleys, the suites add private plunge pools, outdoor showers and generous outdoor living space. This is the option to book for the views.
Luvhondo Rondavel
In a remote corner of the reserve, Luvhondo is built around communal living space, outdoor fireplaces and a self-catering kitchen. It suits families and groups who want the place to themselves.
Hamasha Bush Camp
An exclusive-use camp with shared living areas, a fully equipped kitchen and outdoor gathering space. The most independent way to stay at Leshiba.
Venda Architecture and Artwork
Units are built in the traditional Venda style, and local artwork runs through the property rather than being confined to a gallery wall. Cultural experiences with Venda artists and communities can be arranged.

Location
How to Get There
Most guests self-drive. Leshiba is reached from the N1 north of Louis Trichardt (Makhado), followed by a mountain approach road into the reserve. Confirm the final access route and vehicle requirements with the reserve before setting off.
Polokwane (PTG) is the nearest commercial airport, with Johannesburg roughly five hours away by road. Kruger’s northern gate at Punda Maria and the Mapungubwe landscape both lie within reach for a longer Limpopo trip.

Best Time to Visit
April to September is dry, cool and best for walking, with clear mountain views. The summer months green the reserve, fill the rock pools and bring the migrant birds, but also the heat and afternoon storms. General guidance, confirm for your dates.
