Kapama River Lodge is the sociable one: 64 rooms on 16,000 hectares near the Blyde River Valley, close to the Kruger. If you enjoy a drink at the bar and swapping sightings around the boma fire, you’ll feel right at home.
Life centres on the rim-flow pool, the cocktail bar and the Siyadla Lounge with its two fireplaces. Out in the reserve we look for the Big 5 among some 40 mammal species and 350 birds, and add balloon flights and day tours.
Why We Love It
We love the food and wine: around 600 bottles in the cellar, buffet dinners in the Rhino Boma or out on the dry riverbed, and a full kosher menu. The spa uses South African ingredients like marula and Pinotage, and Kapama Air flies guests from Johannesburg and Cape Town.
