About This Property
Jack’s Camp is a canvas encampment on the edge of Botswana’s Makgadikgadi Pans, salt flats left by an ancient lake about the size of Switzerland. It looks like an explorer’s outpost from another century, with silver and crystal on a very long dining table.
Life out here is surprisingly rich: brown hyena, Kalahari lion, honey badger, porcupine and genet. We go out on day and night drives, ride quad bikes across the pans, and sit among the habituated meerkats as they use us as lookout posts. Time with San guides is a real highlight.
Why We Love It
We love the old-world glamour. There’s a natural history museum, a billiard room, cut-glass decanters and sherry by the fire, then a G&T at the shaded pool pavilion. Coffee and biscuits arrive at your tent in the morning, and the food is some of Botswana’s best.
