About This Property
Kruger Shalati is a converted train permanently stationed on the Selati Bridge, suspended over the Sabie River in the southern Kruger National Park. The design pays homage to the first rail visitors who reached the park in 1920, and the result is one of South Africa's most distinctive places to stay.
Carriage rooms run the length of the train, each with floor-to-ceiling glass walls that open the view straight onto the river and the bush beyond. King beds, en-suite bathrooms, a small lounge with a Juliet balcony, air conditioning and butler service come as standard, while a set of Bridge House suites adds more space and direct access onto the bridge itself.
From the pool deck cantilevered over the water you can watch hippos, crocodiles, elephants and buffalo come down to the Sabie, and trained rangers lead daily game drives and bush walks into more than 15,000 hectares of surrounding wilderness.
Why We Love It
The novelty is real, but it is the position that makes it. The pool and many of the rooms hang directly above the Sabie River, so wildlife sightings happen from the deck as readily as from the vehicle.
It is a rare lodge that suits honeymooners and families equally, with a dedicated honeymoon suite at one end and a family suite that sleeps up to six at the other.

The 3638 Restaurant serves a safari fine-dining menu built on African flavours, while the Round 9 Bar is the place for a sundowner over the river at the end of a drive.

Location
How to Get There
Most guests fly to Skukuza Airport, a short transfer from the bridge, or arrive on a road transfer through the park. Self-drive guests enter through a nearby Kruger gate and follow the signs to the property; the lodge confirms gate timing and directions on booking.
Nearby Attractions
The southern Kruger holds some of the park's densest game and its easiest access. Skukuza rest camp sits nearby, and the Panorama Route around the Blyde River Canyon makes a natural add-on to the west.
Things to Do
Daily game drives and guided bush walks head into the surrounding southern Kruger in search of the Big Five, led by the lodge's rangers.
Back on the bridge, the cantilevered pool, the 3638 Restaurant and the Round 9 Bar make the most of the river view.
Good to Know
This is a fully serviced lodge inside a national park, reached by air or road transfer. The Family Suite welcomes children of all ages, while the carriage rooms suit couples.
The greater Kruger is a low-risk malaria area, so take the usual precautions and seek current medical advice. Confirm the current rate basis and inclusions when you enquire.
Who It's For
Couples and honeymooners after something unusual, design lovers, and families wanting a comfortable southern Kruger base with genuine wildlife on the doorstep.
Best Time to Visit
Dry winter from May to September is best for concentrated game viewing; the green summer is warmer and good for scenery and birds. General guidance, confirm for your travel dates.
